Hi pals~
How is everyone holding up? This week, it doesn’t take more than a few headlines, a few images, or a few articles to internalize what is happening—and for it to install a deep, undulating, and acidic lump directly in your chest. While I have been called “pathologically empathetic” (by my own therapist, mind you), I remain a wholly unqualified pundit. The links and essays I have to offer are the same ones you’ve already seen. So instead, here are some things that have brought me a little calm; a little smile; a little respite this week. I hope they can do so for you as well.
1. Seashell Paintbox
This homemade seashell watercolor kit. A perfect gift, via the Everyday Oil newsletter.
2. Tape Measure Keychain
I have an adorable little tape measure hanging off my car key. In addition to being stunningly cute, it’s also very helpful. People OFTEN ask where I got it and I can never remember—but look! Here they are at Merci Milo!
3. “You Gotta Be” by Des’ree
A recent post from
has been waiting patiently in an open tab for several weeks. Worth the wait (for me) as there were a lot of good things in there. My favorite, however, had to be the unearthing of this song. Listening to it does, indeed, feel like someone giving you a hug.4. Elizabeth’s Metta Bhavana
I’m not much of a yogi, but I do appreciate the ones in my orbit. Today, my friend Elizabeth posted a great loving-kindness meditation, which has gotten her through another difficult time. I plan to try it later today, and I think maybe you should consider it too.
5. Help-full > Help-less
There are many avenues in which to offer support, on both sides.
I have a specific memory of Des’ree on SNL with Bob Newhart and in the commercial for the show she said “you gotta be bad, Bob,” and I say it all the time.
