Click On This: Substack Spring Cleaning Spectacular
Some digital housekeeping, new stuff on the horizon, and admin
Spring is officially here in a calendar kinda way, which tends to bring feelings of renewal (no doi) and, if you are like me, impulsive acts of refreshing, streamlining, purging, repainting, etc. This moment of the year and the first days of back to school always feel like the *true* new year. Spring is also, traditionally, a better time for reevaluating and recommitting—or shedding—resolutions and goals.
To that end! I’m rearranging the furniture around here a little bit. Here’s what I’m doing and where everything is going.
The biggest shift is that I am inserting a less expensive paid option, which I am calling The Supportive Minimalist. For $5/month or $50/year, these subscribers will gain access to all the usual paid things (listed below), but without the print zine.
Current paid subscribers—the Mighty and Maximal—are becoming “Founding Members” on the Substack platform, although nothing about the subscription is changing except the name. You will pay the same amount, have access to all the same things, and, importantly, receive your zine and any other bits and bobs that occur to my imagination in your mail.
Free subscriptions will stay the same! Thank you for being here free folks!!!
On the resolutions and goals tip, here is what is coming and what is leaving…
The Source is launching mid-April. ☀︎ I have been churning for months and months, building out this section as an evergreen All Things Home And Garden link resource, with a few hand-shucked, curated selections as well. It is very nearly ready, is pretty dope if I say so myself, and I think will be a fun and helpful thing. Access to The Source is available for paid and founding subscribers.
Book Club!! ☺︎ This was a much-requested idea from last year and I think it’s time to get going on it. First: We need to choose a book. I have started the ball rolling in the chat—swing through and pop in more ideas, then we’ll take it to a vote. I’ve been struggling to figure out what chat is for—is it something I am moderating or something people just do because… they love to chat? I think using it as the central nervous system for a book club makes a lot of sense. Book club/chat will be available for paid and founding subscribers.
Treehouse.Supply launching this summer ☮︎ A long, long time ago, people asked about buying single back issues. And because I cannot do anything without making it a bigger, more complicated deal than it has to be, I am putting together an online shop with back issues, vintage books I’ve collected, and a heap of fun tools and hardware ephemera I bought a few years ago in Greece. Paid and founding subscribers will get 15% off in the shop! Fun!
Shuttering playlists ☂︎ My heart is not in the playlists anymore folks!! And… there are better places and ways to find new music. So—this aspect of a paid subscription is a thing of the past, a distant memory.
There is one more, extremely exciting thing that is coming later in the year—more like fall. It is so extremely exciting that it needs more than a bullet point. More soon, but I think you will very much dig it.
That’s it, really! Paid subs are now called founding members; minimalists pay a little less and don’t get zines. Playlists are out; The Source, Book Club, Treehouse.Supply are IN.
It’s 50° and sunny in Maine, the sun in shining, the daffodils are aggressively piercing their way through my cardboard weed barrier, the seaweed I put on my garden this fall is starting to smell like low tide, spring is HAPPENING people!
