There are two pillars to Treehouse that really tie the room together, make this whole thing buzz, make readers want to read, want to click. One: my single-subject ramblings found in this section titled “Deep Dives, Reveries & Miscellany.”

But another, perhaps the fan favorite, is what we call “The Source.” Sometimes she rambles, too.

The Source is all the recommendations, roundups, and clickable-fun otherwise, at a lesser publication, known as market reporting. In another life, I think I may have been a market editor and anyone who knows me personally, knows I somehow just know what’s for sale. It could be a pair of kids shoes, a house, a tablecloth. I don’t know why, but there’s a special filing cabinet in my brain that holds all this (meaningless, truly, but fun) stuff.

If you’ve been kicking around here for a while, you know that I have been compiling my personal and obsessive list of bookmarks into a special section for my paid subscribers. It has been a long, long process. Longer than I really knew when I started it. As it goes.

I have been chipping away at this thing in the Substack backend: Eleven categories so far, each with a selection of my current favorites—laid out in similar “floating objects” graphic—and then anywhere from 15-30 bookmark links to sites within each category. It’s a major database.

And, frankly, it’s a little clunky.

BUT LO!

In the mean time, a platform called Rec League launched (actually, it officially launches today, but I’ve been bobbing around there for a little while now), which seemed like it would, and does, solve a lot of the problems I anticipated would drag The Source’s progress.

It looks like this!! Pretty, right?

Rec League is, simply put, a place to organize recommendations. That’s basically it. But there are a few things there that I think will supercharge The Source:

  • It’s easy (for me) to use, which means it will really be the living database I hoped it would be. Broken links: Easily identified! New products: Updated frequently! Different categories: A breeze!

  • You don’t have to be a paid subscriber to access it. If you already pay for a Treehouse subscription, you’ll be given an access code (after the paywall, below). If you don’t, you can pay to access the database through Rec League. It’s à la carte, honey!

  • It doesn’t just have to be products! There’s a map feature, which is fun: Treehouse Guide To Maine? Maybe, in the pipeline? Features: They’ve got em!

  • Custom cursor!!! Enzo Mari sitting in a Sedia 1 is the cursor! Fun! Our hero!

  • Oh, and it looks really, really nice.

So—head on over there, click around, find what you need (or maybe something you didn’t need, but which rules nonetheless). And let me know what you think, please, of course.

(Paid subs: your code comes after the paywall—hang tight. 💝)
