The Source: Why I'm Sitting At The Kids' Table
The secret to most of the best stuff in my person house is shopping in the kids' section.
The year is 1996 and I am 11 years old, deep in the 90s catalogue years—and something new arrives. It is The Land of Nod and it sells home decor and bedding specifically for kids. And it’s cool—not Disney licensed; not bows or monster trucks—cute stuff that I am DESPERATE FOR. So yes, if you would like to know if I have always been like this, I will tell you that I did, in fact, ask for a full set of new bedding for my 11th birthday, Parisian themed with embroidered dachshunds wearing berets and cats riding bicycles, that sort of thing. I was incredibly stoked.
Land of Nod was eventually purchased by Crate and Barrel, who later folded it into their own Crate-a-verse as Crate & Kids. All the other mall brands saw this, made their own. Despite aging out of it, I personally never stopped browsing the kids section, because it’s fun, it’s sometimes a little less expensive, and more often than not, this stuff can live in an adult home, too.
Last year, while chatting with friends, one asked Alison Carroll about the drawers-turned-side tables in her Bailey Island Beach Shack (BIBS 4ever)—turns out, Al’s been shopping the kids section too, so I invited her to team up to make a special edition of The Source. Here we go!
Left to right; top to bottom (as it goes): Sherpa Kids’ Accent Chair; Gem Patches Light Shade; Josephine Shelf; Brass Palm Tree Hooks; Striped Ceramic Lamp; Spindle Daybed (but like, as a couch?!); Wavy Square Jacquard Towels (more on my personal jacquard obsession here); Round Nursery Side Table; Half Dome Lampshade (eerily similar to this project here!); Bandana Pillow; Elora Dresser; Pedestal Play Table.
Aspen bed; Harbor Box; Topographical Bath Mat; Lily of the Valley Side Table; Swivel Chair; Bird Basket; Curvy Storage Table; “Blocks” Nesting Tables; Monkey Lamp; Hanging Storage Basket; Sherpa Storage Ottoman; Wildflower Bedding Set; Scout Dresser.

Mainers must decide exactly what kind of summer they are looking to have here. (LINK)
Every so often, I like to check in on the dome home market. Good to see that it is still robust. (LINK, LINK, LINK, LINK, LINK, LINK, LINK)
Frankly, a lot of good stuff for free on San Diego Craigslist, but, correct me if I’m wrong, but I think this is a pretty nice grill on curb alert? (LINK)
I just got a Jake Arnold x Crate & Kids ceiling light for my powder room!
