May Issue Preview 🪰
Bodies—of water, human, fly, lamb—all ready to stun this month.
Look out, here comes the May print edition of Treehouse and it’s a stunner, people. In, well, several ways. Let’s proceed.
Stunner #1
This month’s cover artist is Rockland’s own Sophie Cangelosi, who, in addition to always being a much-anticipated friendly face around these parts, also happens to paint—in this case, ink—really incredible work, evoking fleeting feelings, bodies, places. I love Sophie’s work and am so thrilled to be able to print this piece for you all. (And! We had such a hard time choosing between works, there’s another one coming later in the year, too—eep!)
Stunner #2
Stun yourself with your ability to turn some nothings (paper bag, chopsticks) into a something (fly swatter—or if you don’t swat, a fan, a trivet, any number of ideas). There’s also the distinct possibility you could be stunning some literal flies after completing this fly swatter tutorial by
and , a generous excerpt from their book Making Things1, which came out last week. THANK YOU, Erin and Rose, for this really strange project, which is totally perfect for this particular really strange publication.Stunner #3
Speaking of which… You guys, sometimes I stun myself.
The full origin story of my love of Easter lamb cakes is maybe for another time (perhaps I’ll share it on Instagram?)—but it involves being young in the aughts, in lower Manhattan, two bands that play stadiums now, being desperately hungry, finding a lamb cake replete with a half-burnt cigarette; the cake imploring my pal and I from behind the bakery window to purchase and eat. There are more fun details. For now, let’s just say this particular confection holds a pretty large portion of my heart.
So! When
posted a Rice Krispie version of course my brain broke, I bought several other cake mold shapes—six to be exact—and, well, saw what else might take to the format.Stunner #4 is, as usual, a little missive from the Met’s collection of open license works and, as is also usual, you’ll have to find yourself a copy to know what it is! Must leave a little something to the imagination!2
Having recently completed an unsuccessful “rope outdoor chaise” search myself, I can tell you these are really, really good. (LINK)
It’s like a playhouse! But, like, with an outboard motor. (LINK)
Starting to become the kind of person who likes garden before-and-afters more than house ones… join me? (LINK)
Uh oh, Nickey Kehoe lands in New York. Goodbye, money. (LINK)

I just watched the Seinfeld where Elaine uses too many exclamation points and am feeling! Very! Liberal! With! Them! Now! Footnotes, too, apparently.
